This home is located on a steep coastal escarpment above a tree fringed park overlooking the Constantia Valley to the north-west and False Bay to the south-east. The courtyard acts as a transitional space between the interior and exterior, allowing the house to revolve around it and fostering continuous interaction with the environment. It can be a secluded area for reflection or an open space that integrates seamlessly with nature.

The feeling of the space is one of tranquillity, and it has therefore been important that the entirety of the interior plays a key role in tying together the contextual and spatial characteristics of the project. Wherever you find yourself in the house, there’s a seamless transition between its different functions. Wherever you choose to look out, you’ll find yourself fully immersed in the glorious surroundings; the architectural structure never spoils the stunning views. In contrast, the first floor, housing the bedrooms, provides the necessary privacy and tranquillity within a smaller designed footprint to firmly hold & embrace its inhabitants from their busy daily careers.
