Slate Stack House
KLEIN KAROO BARRYDALE | CAPE TOWN | SOUTH AFRICA
Fabulously located in the gently rolling foothills of the Langeberg, Klein Karoo. Once sat a monastic slate stacked guest house designed for escape and solitude. Following a devastating veld fire, the original structure was reduced to rubble with only a stonewall skeleton providing a glimpse of its existence.
The clients based in Germany felt an obligation to honor the spirit of the site, an opportunity of restitute for the design team. The brief was to add additional rooms while preserving as much as possible of the original footprint, materials, and resurfacing the original limewash walls.
