EV Farmstead

Set against the backdrop of the lush Zwaanswyk, Tokai. The clients, a Belgian couple looking for a primary family home, love horticulture, horses and the great outdoors. The brief included a collective approach to incorporate & rethink the existing three farm dwellings surrounded by extensive gardens and pasturelands. The farmsteads centrepiece became its main residence.

The approach was to achieve a marvel of modernist farm architecture positioned to embrace the sprawling vistas that define the southern peninsula of Cape Town. The entrance features visible concrete and natural timber elements, integrated around a large courtyard garden offering additional luxury and flexibility during the annual winds. The new dwelling has been strategically re-positioned infront of the site’s 60year old oak tree to accommodate a new horse paddock buffering the adjacent quaint three-bedroom cottage & horse stables, exuding & retaining the Cape countryside charm
